enlarge Silvia Rotter was awarded the gold medal in the category reproduction of modern artists' dolls at the international doll competition in Bregrenz in 2000 for this enchanting doll, named Jamaica.
Silvia Rotter

Silvia Rotter has a fascinating job to which she is absolutely dedicated: she makes dolls. In 1990 she started out by making reproductions of china dolls, using moulds for the dolls' heads which she bought from famous dollmakers. Over the years, Silvia Rotter perfected all the individual stages needed to make the perfect doll: moulding, sanding, firing, colouring, sewing the bodies and designing the dresses. Praise and acclaim flowed accordingly, and the 48 awards she received for her dolls motivated her to design her own from scratch. The diminutive heads that emerge from her moulds are deeply expressive and seem almost alive. The highlight of her collection are her "Portrait Dolls". These unique dolls are based on pictures of children, the idea being to create a three-dimensional memory of children at their sweetest.

Sophie-Marie, who measures 35 cm sitting, is unique. She is a "Portrait Doll", inspired by photos of a customer's little daughter. The tiny china face is almost frighteningly alive. The eight months Silvia Rotter spent working on this project were rewarded by the gold medal at the international "EURODOLL" show. By the way, Sophie-Marie is still waiting for her mum.
