enlarge The Flyer is Wolfgang Schweiß' latest work. This stainless steel sculpture (250 cm high) strives for higher things. She hasn't quite managed to let go - a sandstone base holds her down.
Wolfgang Schweiß

A brilliant artist, so dedicated to his calling that he even gave up his job and house. Every moment of Wolfgang Schweiß' life is devoted to creating metal sculptures. He compares the process of creation to a "snail-ride through hell". Because steel is so hard, enormous effort is required to shape it. The original lump is hammered, gradually gaining shape. After weeks, or even months, the end result emerges: iron and steel sculptures, all with one main topic: "man, a limited creature with infinity inside".

enlarge The sculpture Tearing Open also sets out to examine mankind's "inner reality", excesses and contradictions, static power and strength. The full meaning of the sculpture will gradually emerge once one has spent a few weeks in its company, says Wolfgang Schweiß.
enlarge The world is too tight for Limitation 45mm, a sculpture cut out of one piece of construction steel (1000 x 45 x 45 mm). With military bearing and limited to 45 mm, the man stands upright, occupying as little space as possible. His finely-drawn face gazes at us with an irritable expression. The underlying question the artist is asking us is: "Is our life really limited to such narrow confines?".
"Sculptures do not speak in clear words. They communicate with the spectator only the form and content which he himself permits", explains Schweiß.
