enlarge Experience the sound of Stradivarius' age: this violin, shaped like a viola de gamba and used for playing Baroque music, brings forth warm, soft tones. It was received with a storm of enthusiasm at the "Tokyo Music Fair". Just as well that Mahr had his instrument patented
Walter Mahr

Bubenreuth may be a small town north of Erlangen, yet it is a true metropolis - for violin making. This is the home of Walter Mahr, master violin maker from a tradition spanning five generations. With great skill and craftsmanship he takes costly materials, like particularly attractive maple, choice pine and spruce wood, all of which have waited for over 100 years to be turned into outstanding "musical" works of art. Mahr is a specialist for improving the tone of instruments. He works closely with all kinds of musicians. Mahr enjoys an outstanding reputation as a master reproducer of Baroque instruments, as an excellent restorer, and certified expert for all aspects of the fine craft of violin making.

enlarge Its name is Amadeo. And it sings with the clearest of voices. Mahr created this "perfect" violin shape on the basis of an idea by the designer A. Lipinski. A vigorous tone of the greatest clarity flows out of the extended soundboard of this Baroque-style violin.
enlarge One of Mahr's masterpieces is the Amber Bow: a hand-carved frog made of 50 million-year-old amber; the bow is covered with a fine web of silk and gold; the head is made of 18-karat gold; the stick is oiled and polished. Mahr has received numerous awards for this precious object.

If you want to surprise your grandchild with this special violin this Christmas, you'd better hurry. Lovingly crafted of beautifully grained maple, Mahr applied countless thin layers of spirit varnish to the spruce soundboard. Dark ebony was used for the fingerboard, scroll, peg-box, chin rest and tailpiece.
