Jan Eisenloeffel (1876-1957)
The Dutch craftsman Jan Johannes Wigbold Eisenloeffel was one of the principal pioneers of the "Nieuwe Kunst"
design movement. His aim as an artist was to improve the quality of everyday utensils and objects.
A drawing teacher by training, he had a unique eye for design; as a silversmith he was familiar with metalworking.
Eisenloeffel studied Peter Carl Fabergé's enamelling and engraving techniques closely before founding a metal goods
company with J.C. Stoffels in 1902.

The "Jardinière" from 1904 is a further example of just how far Eisenloeffel's metal designs were ahead of their time,
with the geometrical ornaments marking a departure. The loose decorations were applied with the aid of machines.
