Ten years after his successful series "Erma Jaguar" was first published, the French cult artist Alex Varenne made clear his stand on the borderline between eroticism and pornography. Since 1988, his erotic books, series and drawings have been amongst the most famous in his genre, a genre which like no other explores legal and moral boundaries and which has been subject to heavy censorship. Alex Varenne, born in 1939, worked as university professor for graphic design in Paris in 1962 and started his second career in 1980 together with his brother, Daniel. The two gained instant cult status with their series Ardeur. Countless awards followed, and in 1989 "Erma Jaguar" was released on an unsuspecting world as the highlight of their career. Ever since the story of the self-assured and attractive heroine was published, Daniel and Alex Varenne have been assured their unrivalled place in the world of erotic comics.
