Chihuly made more than 1000 experimental miniatures - always in search of new forms. These unusual creations make
up his vibrant collection Persian; this one featuring, for example, alluringly coloured "lips".

Dale Chihuly
A man of superlatives: the interior designer and architect Dale Chihuly, born in 1941 in Tacoma, Washington,
has received countless awards for his glass creations, which are included in over two hundred museum collections world-wide.
He has been awarded seven honorary doctorates as well as two fellowships from the "National Endowment for the Arts".
Chihuly is also co-founder of the "Pilchuck Glass School" in Washington, which under his guidance has become
a leading address for glass design. Chihuly has received acclaim for his gigantic glass installations, including his "Garden of
Glass" at the Garfield Park Conser-vatory in Chicago, and his "Bridge of Glass" in Tahoma. Who knows?
Maybe someday he'll create what every oceanologist dreams of: a submarine made entirely of glass.

Inspired by the simple beauty of Indian baskets Chihuly captured the grace of their slumped forms in his Baskets
collection. Heat and gravity are the "tools" he employed to make these forms.

The stems of the glass flowers in Chihuly's Ikebana glass collection are up to six feet long.
The everlasting Ikebana blooms are especially impressive when arranged in one of his Venetian vases or
places artfully in natural surroundings.

Equally impressive - and not just because they are up to 40 inches in diameter - are Chihuly's monumental Floats.
Although a sphere is one of the easiest shapes that can be made in glass, the giant dimensions of the Floats presented
a great technical challenge to the artist's skills.
