Erté
The Russian painter Erté (Romain de Tirtoff) is famous for his brilliant costume and set
designs. His dramatic use of light brought the "Father of Art Déco" worldwide fame.
All of his works are pervaded by his deeply spiritual philosophy. In 1990, Erté died at the ripe old age of 98.

Harmony and peace are symbolised by the two birds in Erté's only and distinctive
candelabra Tree of Life. The design was a tribute to the fortieth anniversary of the
foundation of Israel in 1988.
