Germanys best top model: Porsche Carrera GT

The sports car tables of many of their fans will have to be extended by a further column. Anyone involved in a discussion at the pub on the best sports car will now be able to crow about a German model. Friends of Italian and British sports cars will hear the name "Carrera GT" more often in the future and will finally have to accept that in Germany, more precisely in Leipzig, a car has been set out on to the world´s roads which justifiably holds a regular place in the sports car Olympics and, thanks to its performance data, will most probably only ever use its right indicator for turning off.

When the first pictures appeared on the Internet in autumn 2000, the Carrera was still being treated as a concept car. At the world premiere in Paris, the German sports car specialist not only inspired the specialist press, but also numerous potential customers. Its career as a small-series product was sealed when the viability data persuaded even the most scrupulous of controllers in Stuttgart´s Zuffenhausen and PorscheÕs CEO, Dr. Wiedeking, approved a production figure of 1000 cars.

The construction of the Carrera GT will force sports car enthusiasts to re-ask the question as to who builds the best sports cars in the world. s by then the parking situation in our neighbourhood will have improved!

Typical Porsche from the front, and a second glance reveals that it´s typical Porsche from the back too. Only the bonnet reveals loans from Italian competitors. The view of the engine is covered by a hood just for appearance`s sake.

Frame and chassis are made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic, and sufficient road holding is ensured by - true to motor sport tradition - an underbody which consists of one piece.

The two-seater is delivered with two hard tops, which can be stored in the front luggage compartment. The Targa principle is expanded by removal of the cantrail. The Carrera-GT acts like a quasi Targa roadster.
