Brunello Cucinelli: The best cashmere
The "Franciscan of cashmere" is a name often applied to Brunello Cucinelli, a man dedicated to humanism in the harsh world of business.
It all started more than twenty years ago:
Brunello Cucinelli turned his back on his engineering degree and moved to Solomeo, near Assisi. He purchased three knitting machines, laying the foundation for his eponymous clothing company, which makes superb jumpers out of the very finest cashmere wool. The idealistic manager ploughed his profits into the restoration of the medieval Castello di Solomeo in order to provide his staff with a spacious, motivating working environment. To date, the keeper of authenticity, beauty and tradition has invested more than 20 million Euros in Solomeo, without taking a cent in state aid. With a present workforce of around 300, the "preserver of Solomeo's old town" is putting into practice his ideal of team spirit combined with reinvestment of profits to create a shared future.
